The Power of a Vision Statement

The Power of a Vision Statement

Do you have a vision statement that gets you up in the morning, guides your actions throughout the day, and fuels your dreams at night?

If you don’t, you should. Creating a vision statement is one of the most powerful steps you can take toward the fulfillment of your purpose and achievement of your goals. In fact, it’s the bridge that connects the two.

A great way to think of purpose, vision, and goals is as your “why”, “what”, and “how”, respectively.

For example, here at PGI we are guided each and every day, in all of our thoughts and actions, by a simple yet powerful statement that expresses both our purpose and vision:

To improve the quality of lives globally by
elevating the quality of thoughts individually

Through products and services that harmonize people with
the natural, immutable Laws of the Universe.

With partners and collaborators who share our belief in
joyful productivity, lifelong learning, and limitless prosperity.

In order to create a world in which true wealth — spiritual, material,
intellectual — flows to, through, and from each one of us in an
ever-expanding, never-ending cycle of abundance.

Thanks to this statement, we always know what we’re doing. We always know why. We have something concrete and specific to source our goals — our “hows” — from, and measure our outcomes against. If any one of us gets unfocused, overwhelmed, or bogged down, we can simply look to our vision statement to restore our priorities and reset our sails.

It works wonderfully for us, and yours will for you, too. But first, you have to create it.

3 Steps to Creating a Vision Statement that WORKS

1)    Give it a foundation

You can’t have a vision without a purpose, so if you don’t yet know yours, take some time to figure it out now. Simply put, your purpose is what you were put on this earth to do. What do you love? What feels right for you? Dig deep if you have to. When you strike that gold, you’ll know it.

2)    Write it down

Once you’ve got your purpose, you need to identify what you’re going to do in service of it. That’s your vision. Committing your vision to paper is an absolutely essential action. It breathes life into your “what”, making it a real thing that you have a responsibility to nurture and bring to fruition. Our vision tool is a fast and easy way for you to generate a vision statement.

3)    Spread the news

We recently gave our corporate vision its own spot on our website, so that anyone coming to the site can instantly understand who we are, why we’re here, and what they can expect from an association with us. I strongly suggest you do the same. Post your vision statement in a high-visibility spot in your home and work space so it’s never far from your thoughts. Share it with the people close to you, the ones whose support you’ll rely on to put your vision into action. It will help them better understand what you need, and help them keep you accountable.

With a purpose you’re passionate about and a vision statement that’s clear and compelling, you’ll find that the third piece of the equation, the goals that will help you fulfill your purpose and execute your vision, will be pretty easy to clarify. Once you have all three, you’ll have everything you need to move swiftly and decisively toward fully realizing your “why” and living the life of your dreams.
